On September 28–29, RITA held its Annual Meeting and Student Research Showcase at Norfolk State University, welcoming both in-person and virtual participants from across the RITA consortium. The meeting provided an opportunity for over 100 researchers, students, faculty and staff to share updates on the state of the UARC, explore developments shaping the broader research and defense landscape, and look ahead to RITA’s continued growth and impact.

Norfolk State University Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology Dr. Michael O. Keeve opened the meeting by welcoming the RITA community to campus, followed by remarks from university leadership, President Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston and Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Aurelia Taylor Williams. RITA advisory board chair, Ret. General Lester L. Lyles also joined the program virtually, sharing his perspectives and insights with attendees.

A highlight of the meeting was the Student Research Showcase, where RITA’s current student researchers presented their work and shared how they are contributing to research across the consortium. Attendees also toured Norfolk State University’s College of Engineering, gaining a closer look at the university’s facilities, research capabilities and ongoing work.

The meeting concluded with organizational and program updates from RITA Executive Director Dr. Sonya T. Smith, Director of Operations, Rebeca Pannick and Subaward Contract Specialist, Art Crowder, providing attendees with a look at current priorities and the work ahead.

As RITA continues to advance research in tactical autonomy, the Annual Meeting underscored the importance of bringing the consortium together to share progress and strengthen collaboration. The gathering offered an opportunity to reflect on RITA’s progress and look ahead to what’s next.
