Our Core Competencies

The RITA research portfolio is structured into four thematic focus areas:

  1. Advanced AI/ML Algorithmic Solutions
Our center excels in developing cutting-edge algorithms that power tactical autonomous systems. From adaptive decision-making to complex navigation, our algorithms empower unmanned systems to navigate, sense, and respond effectively.
  2. Resiliency & Cybersecurity
RITA UARC expertise lies on developing end-to-end secure trustworthy AI/ML for multidomain operations and usable security engineering solutions for autonomous systems in contested environment to prevent, withstand and recover from cybersecurity incidents.
  3. Tactical Networking & Communication Systems
Our unique expertise lies on tactical networking and communication systems. Robust adaptive, secure and resilient communications and networks are essential for collaboration between platforms (or systems of systems) for exchanging mission data and information.
  4. Organization, Fusion & Mining Multi-Domain Small and Big Data
RITA UARC expertise lies on multi-domain (noisy, incomplete, small and big) data organization, fusion, mining and analytics is unique for multi-domain battle awareness.
  5. Human-Autonomy Teaming and Collaboration
We specialize in human machine teaming with human state sensing, shared perception, joint reasoning, and adaptation to complex and contested operating environments.
  6. Autonomous Systems & Robotics
Our expertise on developing AI-based autonomous systems to analyze sensory information to act with higher precision than a human acting alone.
  7. Sensor Integration and Perception
Enhancing situational awareness is our expertise. We integrate state-of-the-art sensors and employ advanced perception techniques to equip unmanned systems with real-time awareness, ensuring precise and informed decision-making.
  8. Generative AI
Our expertise lies on generative AI for generating text, images, or other media, using generative models.
  9. Modeling, Simulation and Virtual (Digital Twin) Environments
Digital Twin and Virtual Environments are our expertise which enables us to TEV/V of developed AI-enabled systems before integrating them in the real world for tactical autonomy.
  10. Collaborative Surveillance Systems and Platforms
RITA UARC expertise lies on AI-enabled resilient coordination and control algorithms for 3D networked systems with noisy and incomplete information, sharding and sporadic coupling for collaborative inspection and mission tasking/re-tasking.
  11. Ethical and Regulatory Guidance
Navigating ethical and regulatory challenges is essential which is one of our competencies.
  12. Rigorous Validation and Testing
Reliability is paramount. Through rigorous testing and validation processes, we ensure that our autonomous technologies perform seamlessly and safely in diverse tactical scenarios.
  13. Tailored Adaptation to Mission
Our expertise lies in adapting autonomous systems to specific mission requirements. We optimize performance by fine-tuning behaviors and algorithms, enabling our systems to excel in varied operational contexts.
  14. Diversity-Driven Innovation
Diversity is our strength. We harness unique perspectives to fuel innovation, creating tactical autonomy solutions. We specialize in culturally informed interfaces and protocols.
  15. Consortium of Diverse Excellence
